Fishermen - Kamisaka Sekka
Description
From Momoyogusa, Flowers of a Hundred Generations around 1909–1910, this striking design by Kamisaka Sekka reduces a demanding outdoor scene to a few beautifully controlled shapes. Three fishermen, wrapped in simple brown cloaks and broad hats, move diagonally across the picture plane, their bodies bent against the elements. The muted greys, soft earth tones, and sweeping negative space give the work its quiet tension, while Sekka’s flattened forms and elegant linework reveal the refined decorative language that made him a key figure in modern Japanese design.it brings a thoughtful Japanese character to the wall.
